The alignment of business strategy to individual projects is one of the most significant benefits but most challenging aspects of making Project Office work.

The Project Office acts as the link between strategic objectives and individual projects, and assists the CEO in the following areas:

  • Select, prioritize, and terminate projects;
  • Make resource-allocation decisions;
  • Provide guidance to project managers.
  • Take actions to improve the practice of project management across the company.
  • Cultivate a project culture throughout the company. This is a complex process, measured in more than a year, rather than days.
  • Integrate processes and systems in all major departments to provide a view of the business.
  • Manage process quality of project deliverables
  • Assign project resources based on their priority and value to the company.
  • Ensure that key projects/milestones are not delayed because of resource constraints.

The Project Office is a relatively small, yet strategic group dedicated to high-level project management. It doesn't sponsor individual projects; that task remains with the CEO and other departmental executives. Instead, the Project Office group connects the executive vision with the work and foresight of the company. Put another way, the Project Office in-turn improves project-manager competency, management maturity and aligns projects with corporate strategy.

PMCC offers to perform one or more of the following project-management functions:

  1. Project support;
  2. Process development,
  3. Standardization,
  4. Methodology creation;
  5. Training;
  6. Consulting and mentoring; and
  7. Project-manager provisioning.
